ECSA-AEC Mentorship Programme
The Mentorship Programme is an EU-funded initiative that aims to serve as an introduction to the music industry for young female composers and songwriters, in the framework of the AEC - European Association of Conservatoires initiative "Support emerging female artists", and has jointly been developed by ECSA - European Composer & Composer Alliance and EJN - Europe Jazz Network.
This initiative strives to connect young female composers and songwriters with female role models of the music industry. The ultimate goal is to contribute to gender equality within the industry and empower new generation of music creators.
The call for mentees and mentors was open for applications in September 2022. Female composers and songwriters were invited to send their submissions, from which six mentors and six mentees were selected and matched by the Selection Committee:
- Valentina Fin (mentor) - Rotem Aberbach (mentee)
Rebecca Ferguson (mentor) - Lia Meier (mentee)
Aija Puurtinen (mentor) - Sharareh Sheikh khan (mentee)
J Edna Mae (mentor) - Wike Schippers (mentee)
Sorana Santos (mentor) - Liza Bec (mentee)
Hélène Muddiman (mentor) - Tine Surel Lange (mentee)
The kick-off meeting of the programme took place on 21 March 2023 in Brussels, in the frame of the ECSA Creators Conference. During this meeting, mentors and mentees had the opportunity to meet, network, and receive guidelines for their one-on-one appointments.
In April 2023, mentees have joined their mentors to attend the six-month mentoring session, composed of three individual online meetings every two months.
The ECSA-AEC Mentorship Programme will conclude in November 2024 in the frame of the AEC Annual Congress 2024.
