Capacity Triangle panel at WSA Film Music Days - Streamers in Europe: the Myths and the Legends

For the past few years some of the most foremost American streaming services have been trying to reconnect with local European television, film and music industries. Since the success of the Spanish spoken, Oscar winning film Roma, Netflix has pursued its ambition to create increasingly more locally made films and series, and has engaged European composers like Volker Bertelmann and Alexandre Desplat for their projects. With growing influence, questions and concerns arise. Do streaming services like Netflix just apply the American model of buyouts to European composers or do they adapt their strategies to European traditions and standards and the quickly evolving European legislations?
