Niilo Tarnanen
Niilo Tarnanen is a composer, music
theory teacher, and organizational activist living in
Vantaa, Finland. He is currently the vice chairperson
of the Society of Finnish Composers, the Chairperson
of Finnish Music Council, and a Board Member in ECSA. Since August 2022, Tarnanen (Master of Music
2015) holds a position of a permanent part-time
teacher (taideopettaja, 30 %) of music theory in his
alma mater, the Sibelius Academy, University of the
Arts Helsinki.
Tarnanen’s work as a composer is often inspired by
scientific phenomena. Having recently focused on
mostly experimental chamber music, he’s currently
looking forward to several projects with human
voice.
